Solihull Riding Club Plans Major Expansion to Serve Growing Knowle Community

Solihull Riding Club, a well-established equestrian club in Knowle with a history spanning over 75 years, is aiming to grow alongside the village’s rapid development. The club, recognized nationwide for accommodating riders from beginners to professionals, has submitted plans for a significant expansion including new sports facilities.

The proposal, submitted to Solihull Council by Amanda Seabright, responds to the recent housing growth in Knowle. It involves constructing a new building on the club’s car park at Four Ashes Road, creating a versatile indoor sports venue.

According to the planning statement, the proposed structure measures 40 meters by 20 meters and stands 8.5 meters tall. It will house four indoor multi-sport racket courts alongside a social space serving drinks, including alcoholic beverages.

“The fully indoor facility ensures lighting will not disturb the local surroundings," the statement explains. “Situated in a rural location, the project will minimize noise impact. We anticipate approximately 135 visitors daily over a 14-hour schedule.”

The new courts are designed to support three primary sports: pickleball, typti—a novel hybrid of tennis and badminton—and badminton. Additional social activities, such as table tennis and table football, will also be available in the communal area.

“Our goal is to create a dedicated regional hub that supports local players and the wider Solihull area,” the statement adds. The club plans to offer affordable, pay-and-play pricing with variable rates for peak and off-peak times.

This development will complement the ongoing residential expansion in Knowle, where recent approvals include plans for 200 new homes by Taylor Wimpey last December and 151 homes by Kler Group earlier this year.

Local residents are invited to review the plans and provide their feedback during an open consultation. Comments can be submitted by June 24 through the Solihull Council planning portal by searching application number PL/2026/00995/PPFL.
