Solihull Residents Welcome Streetsbrook Road Resurfacing but Urge Pavement Repairs

Residents of Solihull are relieved that the notoriously potholed Streetsbrook Road is set to be resurfaced next week, but many are urging that the adjoining pavements also be repaired. A visit to the area around Dorchester Road, Sharmans Cross Road and Stonor Park Road revealed numerous potholes causing vehicles to swerve or cautiously roll over them, particularly during peak traffic periods.

A long-term Streetsbrook Road resident, who has lived on the street for nearly 30 years, described the situation: “There’s an enormous amount of potholes around here - it’s a disgrace. They are everywhere.” Signs have been erected announcing a road closure for carriageway resurfacing starting Monday, 5 October, expected to last around 10 nights. Work will take place nightly between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion route in place.

While the resident welcomed the road repairs despite the inconvenience, he also highlighted the pavements, which show cracking and wear, remain untreated with no plans for resurfacing. A neighbour echoed this concern, saying: “It all needs doing, including pavements. When I pull out, my car bounces off them - they need to do the pavements as well.”

A spokesperson for Solihull Council stated that priority is given to areas requiring intervention according to Department for Transport standards. “Most of our footways are in good condition and we inspect these regularly. Where a footway requires treatment, it will be programmed in accordingly,” the spokesperson added.

Residents had also noticed cameras recently installed on the road and questioned their purpose. The council clarified these are traffic count cameras used by the transport planning team and are unrelated to the resurfacing works.
