Solihull Mum Who ‘Lit Up Every Room’ Dies Suddenly, Family Appeals for Funeral Support

The family of Wendy Jones, a beloved Solihull mother known for lighting up every room she entered, is appealing for support to cover her funeral costs following her sudden and tragic passing.

Wendy, 64, was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in October. Only days later, after suffering a fall, she was hospitalized and experienced a fatal cardiac arrest on November 8.

Her husband, Richard Jones, described the whirlwind of events from diagnosis to her passing as a “blur” that unfolded far too quickly. Richard, 60, who met Wendy online over 26 years ago while she was living in the United States, spoke of how she was his unwavering “rock.”

“One moment she was here, and the next she was gone. Wendy went into hospital because of her fall, and within two days, she couldn’t even talk,” he shared. “It’s difficult to comprehend how someone so loving and strong could leave us so suddenly.”

Together with their daughter Hayley, Richard has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help with Wendy’s funeral expenses. Richard explained that due to his own disability and limited savings, covering the costs on his own was impossible.

“I had a serious fall that caused a head injury, and Wendy managed everything for me. She was our steady foundation,” Richard said. “We are determined to give Wendy the dignified farewell she deserves.”

In a heartfelt joint statement, Richard and Hayley expressed their immense loss: “Wendy was the heart of our family, always putting others first. Her grandson meant the world to her, and her face would light up whenever he entered the room.

“She made our house a home, and losing her has left a void we don’t know how to fill. Her metastatic breast cancer had already spread to her bones, and just days after diagnosis, a tragic fall led to her cardiac arrest.

“Facing the immediate costs of her funeral and cremation without sufficient savings is overwhelming. We’re not accustomed to asking for help, but this urgent situation leaves us no choice. Wendy deserves a peaceful and respectful goodbye after a lifetime of love and kindness.

“Any support—whether a donation, a share, or a kind word—means so much during this heartbreaking time. Thank you for helping us honor Wendy’s memory.”
