Solihull Mum Honours ‘Selfless’ Carer Supporting Son with Rare Dravet Syndrome

A Solihull mother has expressed deep gratitude for a devoted support worker who has been an indispensable part of her family for over ten years.

Meggie Feeney’s sons, Mason, 14, and Jake, 24, both live with Dravet Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy characterized by frequent seizures and challenges with speech, mobility, behavior, and daily functioning.

Rebekah Wyatt, Mason’s support worker, has gone above and beyond her duties, providing not only practical support such as overnight care and school runs but also emotional care tailored to the family’s unique needs. Her unwavering dedication earned her the prestigious ‘Social Care Professional of the Year’ award at the Little Moments Matter Awards, hosted by Dravet Syndrome UK.

Meggie shared, “Rebekah has been like family to us for over a decade. Her selflessness and care have been a lifeline. We honestly would be lost without her.”

Receiving the award in London on November 15, Rebekah said, “I’m truly honoured. Supporting this family through their challenges and triumphs inspires me daily. This award belongs to them for their incredible resilience and love.”

Galia Wilson, chair of trustees at Dravet Syndrome UK, remarked, “Our awards recognize professionals like Rebekah, whose compassion and dedication bring hope and strength to families facing the complexities of Dravet Syndrome. It’s the small acts of kindness that create profound differences in their lives.”
