Solihull Man of Good Character Sentenced for Carrying Knuckleduster

A 21-year-old man from Solihull has been fined after being found carrying a knuckleduster during a police search earlier this year. Dylan Connolly, a warehouse operative residing in Fordbridge, was stopped by officers on Perch Avenue on April 17, when the offensive weapon was discovered in his pocket.

Connolly pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon in a public place at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on May 12. Prosecutor Ms. Robinson highlighted that the knuckleduster, designed solely to cause injury, was seized, and a deprivation order for the weapon was recommended.

Defending Connolly, Ms. Begum emphasized his previous good character, noting he admitted his guilt promptly and is fully employed. She explained that Connolly had forgotten the knuckleduster was in his jacket when returning from work and that he no longer possesses the item.

The court recognized there were no aggravating circumstances. The magistrates acknowledged Connolly’s stable home and employment, viewing the offense as an isolated incident. He was ordered to pay a total of £831, including a £533 fine.

A forfeiture order was issued, ensuring the knuckleduster will be destroyed. The magistrates underscored the importance of penalizing weapon possession to meet public expectations.
