A 21-year-old man from Solihull has admitted to smuggling a significant quantity of cannabis into the UK, following his return from Dubai on Christmas Eve, 2024. Nathan Corfield, residing on Ulverley Green Road, was found carrying 32 kilograms of the class B drug concealed in suitcases as he landed back home.
At Birmingham Magistrates' Court on June 23, Corfield pleaded guilty to importing the controlled substance. Given the gravity of the offense and the large amount involved, the case was immediately referred to Birmingham Crown Court for sentencing, where harsher penalties can be imposed.
During the hearing, the prosecutor highlighted that due to the quantity of cannabis, sentencing guidelines mandated escalation beyond magistrates’ powers. Corfield, who appeared without legal representation at this initial hearing, confirmed he already had a solicitor prepared to represent him at the Crown Court.

The magistrates emphasized the need for a more severe punishment, stating, “The offense is so serious you need a greater punishment than we can give.” Nathan Corfield is scheduled to be sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on July 21.
