Solihull Council Leader Urges Candidates to Keep Promises in Upcoming Local Elections

As Solihull prepares for a pivotal election on May 7, where all 51 council seats across 17 wards will be contested, the council leader Karen Grinsell is emphasizing the importance of an honest and responsible campaign. With the local election season underway, candidates have already begun canvassing and participating in debates.

At the full council meeting on February 26, Karen Grinsell made a strong appeal to all councillors and prospective candidates to commit to maintaining high ethical standards throughout the election process. She introduced the concept of an election covenant, urging all group leaders to sign it on behalf of their political parties.

This covenant commits candidates to focus on substantive local issues, avoid personal attacks, and refrain from making promises they cannot realistically fulfill. “It is crucial that campaigns are conducted with integrity and respect,” Grinsell stated, encouraging everyone to endorse the agreement as the election approaches.
