Solihull Christmas and New Year Bin Collection Updates

As the festive season approaches, Solihull Council reminds residents of important changes to their bin collection schedule this Christmas and New Year period.

With increased waste from wrapping paper, holiday food, drinks, cards, and decorations, residents should be prepared for adjustments to usual bin pickup times.

There will be no bin collections on the public holidays of December 25 (Christmas Day), December 26 (Boxing Day), and January 1 (New Year’s Day). This year, these dates fall on Thursdays and a Friday, affecting the usual collection days for many households.

To accommodate these changes, the council will arrange alternate collection dates for affected streets. You can find your new collection day by entering your postcode at digital.solihull.gov.uk/BinCollectionCalendar.

Collections on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays will continue as normal throughout the Christmas period.

Solihull Council advises residents that collection times may vary during the holidays due to the increased volume of rubbish and recycling. Please ensure your bins are out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day, and wait until after 4 p.m. before reporting any missed collections.

There is no limit on the amount of recycling collected during the festive season. Extra recycling should be placed in additional containers such as old black recycling boxes, hessian or jute bags, or clear plastic or carrier bags.

Please note, garden waste collections will pause over the holiday period. The final garden waste pickup will be on Friday, December 19, with the service resuming on Monday, January 19.

Staying informed about these changes will help ensure a smooth rubbish and recycling collection experience this festive season.
