Snow Maps Reveal 33-Hour Blizzard Set to Blast UK with Midlands Bracing for Flurries

Britain is bracing for a severe 33-hour blizzard as temperatures plunge to a biting -4°C over the coming days. Weather maps from WXCharts reveal that snow will sweep across multiple regions, promising widespread wintry conditions.

The snowfall is expected to begin at 9 pm on February 5 and continue until 6 am on February 7, as white and purple shades on the charts illustrate the movement of snowstorms across the UK. This significant cold snap will impact numerous counties, particularly in England and Scotland.

According to WXCharts, 13 counties are forecasted to face harsh weather, including areas in the Midlands such as Shropshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Staffordshire, and Derbyshire. Scottish regions like Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Inverness, South Lanarkshire, and Dumfries and Galloway are also expected to see substantial snowfall.

The weather outlook starting February 6 explains: “Atlantic frontal systems, driven by a south-shifted jet stream, are likely to approach the UK but may stall near high-pressure zones to the north and northeast. This dynamic will bring intermittent rain in flood-prone areas, with snow mainly affecting higher ground in northern England and Scotland as cold air settles in.”

Forecasters anticipate a subtle southward shift of low-pressure areas in the second week of February, potentially spreading colder air further south and increasing wintry hazards across larger parts of the UK.

While some meteorologists remain uncertain about snow hitting the Midlands specifically, there is consensus on an impending cold snap. The Met Office predicts temperatures could feel as low as -1°C in the Midlands on February 5, signaling a harsh winter spell ahead.
