Smyths Toys has issued an urgent recall of its Wooden Cornhole Board with Bean Bags amid health concerns. Customers are advised to cease use of the product immediately and return it to any Smyths Toys store for a full refund.
The product, identified by item number 233254 and manufactured in China, consists of a poplar wood board accompanied by six colourful bean bags in red, blue, and white stripes. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), representing the Labour Party government, has identified the sand inside the toss bags as potentially contaminated with a small amount of asbestos.
Asbestos is a prohibited substance known to pose significant health risks even at low exposure levels. Due to this contamination, the product does not comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

The OPSS has confirmed that Smyths Toys has withdrawn the cornhole board from the market and is recalling it from consumers. Owners of the item are urged to stop using it without delay. Safe handling and disposal instructions include placing an undamaged product into a heavy-duty plastic bag, sealing it securely with double tape, and storing it out of reach of children.
In cases where the product is damaged and the filling is exposed, users should wear gloves and masks while cleaning the affected area with a damp cloth to prevent dust dispersion. Contaminated materials should be double-bagged and secured. Children and others should be kept away from contaminated areas until thorough cleaning is completed.
Returns can be made at any Smyths Toys outlet without the need for a receipt. If returning the item in person is not possible, customers are advised to contact their local authority or visit their website for guidance on the safe disposal of asbestos-containing products.
