Shoplifters Caught Singing ‘Santa Baby’ While Stealing From Family Hardware Store

In a bizarre and bold incident at Badham’s Hardware in Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire, two female shoplifters were filmed on CCTV singing “Santa Baby” as they helped themselves to around £100 worth of merchandise. The items stolen included enamel model paints, professional artist brushes, a Gruffalo toy, and some hats.

Catherine Badham, 48, who runs the family shop with her husband Patrick, only became aware something was amiss when stock started disappearing. The footage revealed the women casually crooning the Christmas song while filling their bags, even looking directly at the camera at one point. Catherine expressed her shock, saying, “They were singing Santa Baby while stealing my stock, so casually—it was horrible to watch.”

Patrick, who was in the shop during the theft, became suspicious and reviewed the CCTV footage, confirming his doubts. “They were singing Santa Baby as they merrily chose what they wanted,” he said.

The couple suspects the stolen goods might be resold locally, possibly at a nearby camp where wreaths and lucky horseshoes are sold. Catherine added, “They looked like normal people doing their shopping, which makes it very disappointing. We always like to see the good in people.”

The Badham family, dedicated to their community and hard work, found the incident particularly disheartening so close to Christmas. They have reported the theft to West Mercia Police, who confirmed an investigation is underway.
