A fortunate shopkeeper in Prestatyn, Wales, has become £10,000 richer, thanks to a customer’s incredible £2 million scratchcard win. The lucky player purchased a £5 Black Pearl Deluxe Scratchcard from The Paper Shop on High Street and instantly struck gold.
John Evans, the shop owner, was rewarded by Allwyn—the operator of The National Lottery—through their ‘Share the Win’ initiative. This program gives retailers a cash reward whenever they sell a high-tier winning ticket or scratchcard worth £50,000 or more.
“I’m absolutely delighted with my reward,” said Mr. Evans. “As a seasonal business, this boost is more than welcome and will really help us out.”

The identity of the £2 million winner remains confidential. Alison Acquaye-Acford, Allwyn’s Director of Commercial Partnerships and Retail Sales, praised the shop and Mr. Evans for their role in creating such life-changing moments. She highlighted how the initiative celebrates the crucial part retailers play in spreading positivity across communities and supporting important causes, with around £32 million raised every week for good causes through The National Lottery.
