School in Sutton Coldfield Apologizes for False Pork Ban in Packed Lunches

Mere Green Primary School in Sutton Coldfield has issued an apology after mistakenly informing parents that pork was banned from packed lunches for an upcoming school trip to London.

A message posted on the school’s private communication platform ahead of the trip to the Science Museum and Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday, November 5, included a list of reminders. Among these was an incorrect instruction stating: “No nuts, coconut or pork in lunches please.” This caused confusion and concern among parents and online communities, as it implied familiar pork products such as ham sandwiches and pork pies were prohibited.

The school’s press officer confirmed that the notification was an unfortunate human error and clarified that pork items are indeed permitted both at school and on school trips. Mere Green Primary, which is part of The Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP), offers a diverse menu that includes all meat products, including pork.

A spokeswoman for the school stated, “This was a genuine mistake, and we apologise for any confusion or upset caused to families. Our schools are committed to being inclusive and supporting the diverse needs of all children and families.”

The school emphasized that the erroneous message does not reflect its policies, and it remains committed to creating an inclusive environment where all students feel supported.
