Sainsbury’s expands Nectar rewards for Uber Eats grocery orders

Sainsbury’s has introduced a notable update to its Nectar loyalty programme, allowing customers to earn points when ordering groceries through Uber Eats. This change means that Nectar card holders can now accumulate one point for every £1 spent on eligible Sainsbury’s products ordered via the Uber Eats app or website.

Uber Eats serves as one of Sainsbury’s delivery partners, providing a quick and convenient way for customers to receive their groceries. While several items are excluded from the offer-such as gift vouchers, baby milk, lottery tickets, tobacco, and vapes-the expanded rewards scheme is designed to benefit shoppers using the rapid delivery platform.

To ensure customers receive their points, Nectar card holders must enter their full Nectar card number at the checkout stage of their Uber Eats order. Failure to do so means points will not be credited, and unfortunately, points cannot be awarded retrospectively. Once registered, eligible points should appear in customers’ Nectar accounts within 28 days.

This enhancement applies to over 1,300 participating Sainsbury’s stores across the UK through Uber Eats. It builds upon the existing partnership between Nectar and Uber, which previously allowed members to convert Nectar points into vouchers redeemable for Uber trips and Uber Eats purchases.

Katie Hunter, Uber Eats’ general manager for grocery and retail in the UK, highlighted the customer benefits: “We know how much Uber Eats customers love Nectar, so bringing points directly to their Sainsbury’s orders was a no-brainer. Now, they can collect Nectar points on all their Sainsbury’s essentials as well as spending them across the entire Uber app. It’s all about delivering flexibility, convenience and value for customers right alongside their favourite groceries.”

Mark Given, Sainsbury’s chief technology, marketing and data officer, added: “Nectar members can already turn their points into Uber rides or Uber Eats treats – and now they can collect points when ordering Sainsbury’s groceries through Uber Eats too. It’s another way we’re helping customers get more from Nectar, whether they’re stocking up on essentials, planning dinner or making everyday life that little bit easier.”

To make use of this offer, customers should select their groceries from a participating Sainsbury’s store on Uber Eats, enter their Nectar card number before completing the order, and meet the minimum spend of £1 to qualify for points.
