Sainsbury’s has discontinued its popular rapid delivery service, Chop Chop, at 50 stores across the UK in a significant change for customers. The standalone Chop Chop app is no longer available in app stores, marking the end of an era after nearly a decade of service.
Launched as a direct competitor to quick-delivery options like Tesco’s Whoosh, Chop Chop enabled shoppers to receive groceries and everyday essentials within 60 minutes. Customers could select up to 30 items, which were then handpicked by a personal shopper and delivered for a fee of £4.99 on a minimum £15 order.
Now, all rapid delivery orders must be placed through the standard Sainsbury’s app, streamlining the shopping experience. Jim Banks, Sainsbury’s head of experience design, explained the rationale behind this move: “Customers shouldn’t have to think about which app to use. One place to do the weekly shop. One place to get groceries in as little as 60 minutes. Less friction. Less mental load. More getting on with life.”

Banks added that this integration is a “big step forward in simplifying our ecosystem, making shopping feel easier, calmer, and more human.” Customers can still enjoy the convenience of quick grocery delivery — just through a single, unified platform.
