Ryanair has announced a significant change to its boarding pass policy, set to take effect on Wednesday, November 12. Passengers are now required to use digital boarding passes accessed through the Ryanair app on their smartphones or tablets, as printed boarding passes will no longer be accepted.
This update means that travellers must download the Ryanair app in advance to obtain their boarding pass electronically. The airline has emphasized the importance of this change to avoid potential additional fees at the airport.
Ryanair has issued reminders noting that online check-in is mandatory before arriving at the airport. Failure to check in online will result in passengers having to pay an airport check-in fee.

For those concerned about technical issues, Ryanair has reassured passengers that if they have already checked in online but lose or damage their device, or if their smartphone or tablet battery dies, a free printed boarding pass will be provided at the airport. Additionally, passengers who do not own a smartphone or tablet but have completed online check-in will also receive a free printed pass at the airport. However, these passengers will miss out on real-time flight updates and enhanced customer service during disruptions.
To assist passengers, Ryanair will continue to send email reminders to check in online 48 and 24 hours before departure. If these reminders are ignored and passengers arrive without checking in, the standard airport check-in fee will apply.
This move towards fully digital boarding passes aims to streamline the boarding process and reduce paper use, but it requires passengers to adapt quickly to the new system to avoid inconvenience or extra charges.
