RSPCA Launches Urgent Appeal After Rescuing Over 250 Dogs from Neglected Breeding Home

In a heartbreaking rescue operation, the RSPCA uncovered more than 250 poodles and poodle-crosses suffering in severe neglect at a breeder’s home in Nottingham. Many of the dogs were found caked in filth, with matted coats and painful skin lesions, living cramped together in a small lounge. Some were forced to shelter inside a wood burner, while others huddled beneath furniture, struggling for space.

Concerned neighbors alerted authorities, prompting a swift response from the RSPCA. Officers described the situation as a result of excessive breeding spiraling out of control, overwhelming even well-meaning owners. The charity transported 87 dogs to its Radcliffe Animal Centre, while Dogs Trust took responsibility for the remaining animals.

In response to skepticism over the authenticity of the distressing images, RSPCA Superintendent Jo Hirst confirmed the photos are real: “This shocking image is the reality of many multi-animal cases our officers are encountering. Reports involving dozens and even hundreds of animals in similar conditions are increasingly common.”

Among the many rescuees were Stevie, a deaf and blind cocker spaniel, and Sandy, a poodle, who have formed a strong bond and must be rehomed together. RSPCA Ambassador and media personality Kate Lawler visited the shelter and expressed hope that both dogs find a loving home. “Stevie is such a brave and beautiful dog, and Sandy’s care for her is incredible. Their story is a powerful reminder of the risks of multi-animal households when not properly managed.”

The RSPCA has now launched a major appeal to find permanent, loving homes for all the rescued dogs, offering them a second chance at a happy life.
