Royal Mail is set to transform parcel services in the UK with a new six-month trial introducing 24/7 parcel lockers outside selected Post Office branches. This initiative aims to provide customers with greater flexibility by allowing parcel drop-off and collection at any time, even when Post Office stores are closed.
Anna Malley, Director of Partnerships and Acquisitions at Royal Mail, highlighted the significance of the move, stating, “Post Office is one of Royal Mail’s most important partners, and this is an exciting step forward in how we work together. This trial reflects our commitment to meeting a wide range of customer needs while maintaining existing service options.”
Neill O’Sullivan, Mails and Parcels Director at Post Office, added, “Following a remarkable 370-year partnership with Royal Mail, we continue to innovate and adapt parcel services to meet customer demands. The flexibility offered by locker services is a key benefit, and we look forward to assessing the positive impacts on both our customers and postmasters during this trial.”

This trial follows last year’s partnership between Royal Mail and Sainsbury’s, which introduced parcel lockers in Sainsbury’s stores across the UK. This pioneering collaboration made Sainsbury’s the first supermarket chain to join Royal Mail’s rapidly growing network of convenient parcel drop-off and collection points.
Royal Mail first launched its parcel locker network in December 2024 to address the rising popularity of online shopping and secondhand marketplace sales. Jack Clarkson, Group Strategy and Transformation Director at Royal Mail, commented at launch, “Partnering with a retailer like Sainsbury’s is fantastic for our customers and the wider UK public. With demand soaring for accessible parcel services, expanding our network through partnerships is essential to making parcel sending and receiving as seamless as possible.”
The new 24/7 lockers at Post Office locations represent another step towards meeting customer needs by providing more convenient, flexible parcel service options across the UK.
