Royal Mail is experiencing delivery delays affecting 73 postcodes nationwide, occurring mere hours before Mother’s Day. The postal service acknowledged several challenges affecting its operations.
A spokesperson for Royal Mail stated: “We deliver mail to all addresses six days a week. However, a small number of local offices are currently facing temporary disruptions due to high levels of staff absenteeism, resource shortages, and other local factors.”
To lessen the impact on customers, Royal Mail is rotating deliveries across affected areas while providing focused support to the offices experiencing issues. The company reassured customers that it is working to restore services to its usual high standards as quickly as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate our customers’ understanding during this time,” Royal Mail added.
This follows regulatory pressure earlier in the year when Ofcom fined Royal Mail £21 million for failing to meet annual delivery targets—a mark that has been hit three times by the 509-year-old postal service. Subsequently, Ofcom revised Royal Mail’s Universal Service Obligation (USO) targets, lowering the expectations from next month: 90% of first-class mail must be delivered within one working day (down from 93%), and 95% of second-class mail within three days (down from 98.5%).
