Dashcam footage from Conwy county reveals a shocking road rage incident in which John Lee attacked a driver, knocking him unconscious before turning his aggression toward the victim’s wife. The events unfolded on June 15, 2025, in the Llanrwst area.
During Lee’s sentencing hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court, the footage was shown, illustrating how Lee exited his vehicle after being caught behind the victim’s car. The victim had pulled over suddenly to pick up eggs after hearing a loud beep and fearing an issue with his vehicle.
Lee approached the victim’s window and aggressively shouted, “What are you doing?” before delivering a powerful punch, causing the victim to lose consciousness while seated in his driver’s seat. The prosecution explained that Lee also grabbed and shook the victim during the assault.

After the physical attack, Lee verbally abused the victim’s wife when she stepped out of the car. The victim suffered injuries including a bruised eye socket, a grazed eyelid, and the lasting effects of losing consciousness. He described the ordeal as “extremely aggressive and shocking” and reported ongoing memory issues related to the attack. His wife and family have experienced a significant emotional toll as a result.
Defence counsel Richard Edwards noted that Lee pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and expressed “bitter regret” over his impulsive behaviour. Lee’s own wife and children were in the car at the time and distressed by the dangerous driving caused by the victim’s sudden stop. The defence characterized the event as an isolated moment of madness.
Further background revealed that Lee is a self-employed carpenter and joiner and a former military man whose career was curtailed by injury. Edwards also pointed to Lee’s mental health struggles, including founding a mental health football team to support community well-being. Lee’s only prior conviction was a common assault referral in 2005.
Sentencing, Judge Nicola Jones condemned the severity of the attack, especially since the victim’s elderly parents witnessed the scene from the back seat. She also reprimanded Lee for his verbal aggression toward the victim’s wife in front of his own children.
Lee received an eight-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months and must complete 10 rehabilitation days. Additionally, he is ordered to pay £500 in compensation and a statutory surcharge.
