Residents in Pyjamas Rush to Scene of Multi-Car Crash in Birmingham as Driver Asked ‘Do You Know What You’ve Done?’

In the early hours of Sunday, February 15, chaos erupted on Lincoln Road North, on the Birmingham-Solihull border, when a car crashed into multiple parked vehicles, leaving residents shocked and concerned.

Just before 6:30 a.m., a white VW Tiguan was captured on CCTV colliding with several cars parked half on the pavement and half on the road. The vehicle first hit a black SUV, pushing it into a beige Mini with a black roof, which then collided with a black Audi. The chain reaction continued as the vehicles were pushed further down the street, damaging several other cars and a van.

Awakened by the screeching and crashing sounds, local residents hurried outside—many still in their pyjamas—to witness the aftermath. Witnesses reported the driver appeared to have fallen asleep at the wheel following the collisions. When police arrived, they found the man near the scene. The driver reportedly woke up, attempted to move his vehicle but only managed to drive about a meter before officers intervened.

One local Audi owner, who preferred to stay anonymous, shared her experience with BirminghamLive: “It felt like the floor was coming up with all the noise. I saw my car, which had been parked, now stranded in the middle of the road. We were scared but managed to get the registration details as advised by the emergency operator.”

She described how the driver had taken the wrong side of the road, hitting cars outside homes and parking near a veterinary clinic before falling asleep in his car. Concerned residents tried waking him by knocking on his window without success.

Police presence included three cars and roughly seven officers. After the driver was roused, officers questioned him about the damage, asking, “Do you know what you have done?” The crash had affected at least four cars and a van, with wing mirrors on some additional vehicles also damaged.

The Audi owner expressed the frustration felt by many in the neighborhood: “Some of us rely heavily on our cars for work and daily life. One of the cars damaged was a brand-new birthday present for a young woman—it’s really heartbreaking.” She added that her own vehicle was likely a total loss and unlikely to be replaced for its full value.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police confirmed the incident: “We responded to reports of a vehicle colliding with multiple parked cars on Lincoln Road North around 6:30 a.m. The driver left the scene initially but was soon located nearby. A drugs test was conducted and returned positive. The 22-year-old man remains under investigation.”

As enquiries continue, the community reflects on the potential dangers posed by impaired driving and the impact such incidents have on everyday lives.
