A driver was recorded travelling at an alarming 105mph on a 30mph section of the A4540 New John Street West in Birmingham, marking the most severe case of speeding on such a road in the city during 2026.
The incident took place between Hospital Street and Lucas Circus, where average speed cameras operate to monitor and deter speeding. The footage, obtained by BirminghamLive through a Freedom of Information request to West Midlands Police, reveals the dangerous driver’s excessive speed, more than three times the legal limit.
Such reckless behaviour could have resulted in an automatic driving ban, given the extreme nature of the offence. The driver’s actions posed a significant risk to other road users while navigating the busy city streets.
