Rat Spotted Inside Birmingham City Council House Sparks Outrage

Last month, a rat was spotted scurrying inside Birmingham City Council House, causing concern among staff and visitors. An anonymous source expressed outrage to BirminghamLive, describing the sighting near the food storage area of the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery café as “totally unacceptable” and indicative of a potential rat infestation.

The Council confirmed the presence of the rat and assured the public that pest control was promptly engaged the very next morning. Since then, no further sightings have been reported. A spokesperson for Birmingham City Council said: “We are aware of the issue and fully understand how unsettling it is for staff to encounter pests in the workplace. We acted immediately, bringing in a pest-control partner who attended the following morning and has since carried out multiple follow-up visits.”

They added that their assessment suggests the incident was an isolated entry, supported by a lack of subsequent pest sightings. In response, the Council’s cleaning team also carried out additional cleaning and sanitisation to maintain hygiene standards.
