A planning application has been submitted proposing the conversion of a unit within Holly Road Industrial Park in Erdington, Birmingham, into a specialist school for up to 40 pupils aged between 14 and 16.
If approved, the school would employ approximately six members of staff and operate on weekdays from 8:45am to 2:45pm. It is designed to provide a structured and supportive learning environment tailored for Key Stage 4 students who may benefit from alternatives to mainstream education.
Situated on an industrial estate accessed via Spitfire Road, which connects to Holly Lane and the A38 Tyburn Road, the surrounding area comprises vehicle repair workshops, contractors, distribution firms, and other trade-based enterprises.

Planning documents indicate that pupil arrivals and departures would be managed within short, supervised periods, minimising activity outside normal school hours.
The planning statement highlights that the proposed use of the site would be limited in scale and carefully managed. Controls on pupil numbers, operating hours, parking, drop-off arrangements, and external activities would be enforced through specific planning conditions. This approach aims to ensure compatibility with the industrial setting.
Additionally, the development would repurpose an existing building with minimal external alterations and no expansion of the current footprint. This avoids developing undeveloped land and introduces a valuable social infrastructure asset in an accessible urban location.
