Prison Officer Jailed for Sexual Relations with Inmates and Smuggling Drugs

Isabelle Dale, a 23-year-old prison officer at HMP Coldingley, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for engaging in sexual relationships with two inmates and smuggling synthetic cannabis into the facility.

Dale was discovered conducting sexual activity with one inmate, Shahid Sharif, 33, a convicted robber, in the prison’s multi-faith prayer room while two other inmates acted as lookouts. The court learned that Dale also maintained a relationship with another prisoner, Connor Money, 28, who is serving a nine-year sentence for a fatal car crash during a police pursuit.

An investigation revealed that Dale brought in “Spice,” a synthetic form of cannabis, using equipment found in her vehicle designed to evade prison x-ray detection, including carbon paper. She was convicted of two counts of misconduct in public office and conspiracy to smuggle a “List A” banned item into the prison.

Text messages uncovered during the investigation included explicit communications from Sharif praising their encounters, along with love letters and provocative photographs of Dale discovered in his cell. Dale had even tattooed Sharif’s nickname, “Sneaks,” on her neck and displayed a framed photo of the two in her home.

During the trial at Southwark Crown Court, prosecutors described how Dale’s actions violated serious standards. Judge Chris Hehir emphasized the gravity of her offenses and told her to prepare for imprisonment. Dale had claimed that she sought comfort from the inmates due to difficulties integrating with her colleagues who mocked her tattoos.

Despite admitting to “phone sex” with Sharif, Dale denied any physical relationship, asserting she was unaware that possessing a mobile phone in prison was illegal. Ultimately, the court found sufficient evidence of her misconduct, including multiple text exchanges with other inmates.

Dale’s case highlights the significant risks and breaches of trust when prison officers become involved with inmates, undermining security and order within correctional facilities.
