Prince William, a passionate Aston Villa fan, has unveiled that his daughter, Princess Charlotte, supports Chelsea, not Aston Villa. The revelation came during his recent visit to Cornwall, where he was attending a housing project linked to his Duchy of Cornwall estate.
Known for his unwavering support of Aston Villa, Prince William witnessed the club’s historic victory in the Europa League last week, their first in over four decades, after defeating Freiburg 3-0 in Istanbul. Despite this, he has always encouraged his children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—to find their own football allegiances.
While chatting with children at Nansledan Primary School, one pupil’s admiration for Chelsea prompted Prince William to share, “My daughter loves Chelsea.” It appears that Prince George remains an Aston Villa fan, having attended multiple matches, including last season’s Champions League quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain. Prince Louis, on the other hand, reportedly supports “about five different” teams, according to a lighthearted comment from his father.

Prince William once shared on That Peter Crouch Podcast how he chose his football team at age 11, deliberately picking Aston Villa to avoid following classmates who supported Manchester United or Arsenal. He described Villa as a “very proud Midlands club” which felt special to him.
The Princess of Wales, Catherine, is also believed to be a Chelsea supporter, aligning with her daughter. This became known during a 2015 charity Christmas party at the Anna Freud Centre, where she celebrated bonding over support for Chelsea with a young fan.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry is a less avid football fan than his brother but reportedly supports Arsenal. He once mentioned in New Zealand that “most of the Royal Family are Arsenal fans.”
King Charles is known to support Burnley, a Lancashire-based club, and was rewarded with a VIP season ticket and match invitation. The Duchess of Edinburgh supports Sunderland, linked to her patronage of the club’s charitable arm, the Foundation of Light.
