Prince William has thoughtfully paid tribute to his late mother, Princess Diana, during his official visit to Brazil. The Prince of Wales is currently on a five-day trip to South America centered around the Earthshot Prize, a global initiative aimed at finding innovative solutions to environmental challenges and repairing the planet.
During his visit, William recreated a poignant moment by posing for a photograph in the shadow of Rio de Janeiro’s famous Christ the Redeemer statue—mirroring an iconic image of Diana taken 34 years ago. Standing on the summit of Mount Corcovado, William gazed out over the breathtaking views of Guanabara Bay and Sugarloaf Mountain, the same setting where his mother paused for reflection during her six-day tour of Brazil in April 1991.
This visit was closed to the public, allowing William a quiet, reflective moment at the exact spot where Diana posed when he was just an eight-year-old. A Kensington Palace spokesperson noted that the prince has been deeply moved by the warm memories shared by the people of Rio about Diana’s visit to the city.

During the trip, William met with the 15 finalists of the Earthshot Prize, highlighting his commitment to environmental stewardship, much like his mother’s humanitarian legacy. Upcoming events include William delivering the keynote speech at the Earthshot awards ceremony, which will be attended by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Both leaders will then participate in the COP30 climate talks in the Amazon, underscoring the global importance of environmental action.
