Pret A Manger customers across the UK have been left disappointed as a beloved menu item, the Jambon Beurre sandwich, has temporarily vanished from shelves. The root cause? A shortage of cornichons, the small pickled gherkins essential to the sandwich, caused by supplier issues.
Shops across the West Midlands—including Birmingham, Solihull, and Coventry—have been affected by this supply disruption. A Pret spokesperson confirmed the issue, stating: “Customers may have noticed that our jambon beurre is currently missing from shelves. This is due to a temporary shortage of cornichons. We’re sorry for any disappointment caused and are working hard to get this Pret favourite back in shops as soon as possible.”
Social media reactions highlighted the sandwich’s sudden absence, with some customers expressing relief that the mystery of the missing Jambon Beurres had been solved, while others jokingly speculated about broader supply challenges.

This shortage comes shortly after Pret A Manger expanded its menu to offer more variety. New additions include Triple Sandwiches such as the All-Day Breakfast Triple—which combines sausage, streaky bacon, and free-range egg mayo—and the Everyday Triple, featuring the Super Club, Pole & Line Caught Tuna, and Free-Range Egg Mayo sandwiches.
Anna Tebbs, Head of Food at Pret, emphasized the company’s commitment to customer choice: “Our customers love having choice, and this latest menu expansion is all about giving them more ways to enjoy their Pret favourites. Whether it’s mixing and matching half sandwiches, trying one of our new Triple Sandwiches or pairing lunch with a delicious load cake, we’re excited to bring more variety, freshness and fun to our menu.”
While the cornichon shortage is temporary, Pret is actively working to restore the Jambon Beurre sandwich to menus as soon as possible, promising fans that this classic will return in time.
