Poundland to Close 19 More Stores by 2026 Amid Ongoing Restructuring

Poundland has announced plans to close an additional 19 stores by 2026 as part of its continued restructuring efforts. The retailer had already shuttered 30 locations earlier, with more closures set to follow.

The first store scheduled to close is the Loughborough branch on Market Street, which will permanently shut its doors on November 14. Following this, the Melton Mowbray store on Nottingham Street will close on December 4. Other branches, including those in Sidcup and Peckham, are set to close on November 14 and 20 respectively.

In preparation for these closures, several locations have launched significant sales, offering discounts of up to 40% on a wide variety of items. These clearance sales cover a broad range of products, including homeware, clothing, health and beauty items, and groceries.

Poundland’s restructuring will ultimately involve the closure of 68 stores by the end of 2025 as part of its broader turnaround strategy. Despite the closures, the retailer plans to maintain and operate hundreds of other stores across the UK.

A Poundland spokesperson commented, “Customers will benefit from significant savings as stores prepare to close, with markdowns covering all stock until sold.”

Darren MacDonald, Poundland’s UK country manager, emphasized the company’s commitment to customers during this transition: “We understand it’s disappointing to see stores close, but before we say goodbye, we’re offering exceptional value to customers. Our special reductions complement our usual great prices, allowing us to leave with pride and continue serving communities through our remaining stores.”
