A widely used sun cream has been prohibited from sale in the UK after being classified as “high risk” by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS). The product, known as Bubble Cosmetics Sunscreen Pack, was refused entry at the UK border owing to significant safety concerns.
The OPSS has criticised the product for failing to comply with multiple essential cosmetic labelling regulations. It highlighted that mandatory information, including detailed instructions for sunscreen use and adequate traceability data, were missing. These shortcomings mean consumers may lack the necessary information to use the sunscreen safely and that effective regulatory oversight is compromised.
As a result, the OPSS declared that the Bubble Cosmetics Sunscreen Pack does not meet the standards set out in Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, commonly referred to as the Cosmetics Regulation. Consequently, these products have been rejected from entering the UK market and cannot be lawfully sold to consumers.
Separately, earlier this month, the OPSS issued a recall for FreshWipes Intimate Unscented Wipes due to microbiological contamination risks. Sold through various platforms including the FreshWipes website, Amazon UK, TG Jones, TikTok Shop, and QVC, specific batches of these moist wipes were found to have a compromised preservative system that might lead to adverse skin reactions.
FreshWipes have recalled affected batches, identified by batch numbers LOT 0926 and LOT 0515. Consumers who possess these batches are advised to cease use immediately and contact the point of purchase for guidance on returning the product for refund or disposal. FreshWipes reaffirmed their commitment to product safety and quality, apologising for any inconvenience caused.
