Police Excavations Continue in Midlands Garden Amid Ongoing Murder Investigation

Leicestershire Police have been using jackhammers to excavate a garden in Broad Avenue, Evington, as part of a continuing investigation into the disappearance and presumed murder of 60-year-old Gary Piatek.

Mr. Piatek was last sighted on April 18, 2024, when he visited a local pub. He lived in the Broad Avenue property, which he inherited from his parents. Since February 10, police have been conducting intensive searches in the area, with local residents reporting the loud noise of drilling and a generator used by officers, which has disrupted the neighborhood late into the night.

To date, eight people have been charged in connection to the case, including two from Birmingham. Among them, Yosif Ibrahim, 43, of Broad Avenue, and Omed Firuzman, 25, of Ashley Road, Bournemouth, face murder charges and are scheduled for trial on October 12. The trial could last up to eight weeks.

Other accused individuals include:

  • Diar Muhammedy, 34, of Falmouth Road, Leicester, and Mabast Khalid, 21, of Manway Close, Birmingham, charged with assisting an offender between April 17 and 25, 2024.

  • Dilan Rabati, 34, and Ahmed Nabla, 34, both from Broad Avenue, charged with possession and use of criminal property related to Mr. Piatek’s house between June 1, 2024, and February 10, 2026.

  • Dalya Rabati, 29, from Isleworth, London, charged with possession of criminal property, fraud related to a false tenancy agreement created in January 2025 involving Mr. Piatek’s house.

  • Nazem Kakamando, 50, of Gordon Road, Birmingham, charged with handling over £140,000 in criminal property and fraud linked to a false tenancy agreement from January 2025.

The investigation remains active with no current timeline for completion. Police continue to seek evidence related to Mr. Piatek’s disappearance as the community awaits further developments.
