Phil Neumann is fully committed to Birmingham City and eager to leverage his prime years to help the club achieve its ambitions. The German centre-back had a solid first season after transferring from Hannover 96 last year, frequently partnering with Christoph Klarer in central defence. His consistent performances won the trust of manager Chris Davies as the campaign ended.
This summer, however, Blues bolstered their defence by signing Dael Fry, introducing healthy competition for Neumann and casting some uncertainty over his starting position for the new season. Despite this, Neumann remains focused and shows no sign of considering a move away.
Speaking to BILD, Neumann shared, “I feel very comfortable in Birmingham and am completely focused on the new season. Naturally, I want to get the most out of my career. Playing in Germany again someday would be great since the Bundesliga has always been a dream. But right now, my full focus is on Birmingham and our objectives.”

At 29, Neumann believes he is entering the peak phase for a centre-back, combining valuable experience with peak physical fitness. “I want to make the most of the best phase of my career, deliver a strong season, and then see where it leads,” he added.
Neumann was brought in to help Birmingham City push for Premier League promotion—a goal that remains unchanged. Nonetheless, the club acknowledges the challenge ahead, with Premier League squads West Ham and Wolverhampton Wanderers among the favorites to secure promotion this season.
He also highlighted the club’s vibrant atmosphere: “You can tell something big is happening here. The fans are incredibly passionate, the stadium was almost always sold out, and there are even plans to build a new stadium in the long term.”
In summary, Neumann underlined the ultimate aim: “The Premier League is the goal, and we want to lay the foundation for that this season.”
