Parents of children starting school in September 2026 are being urged to act quickly as the deadline to apply for reception class places in Wolverhampton approaches. The City of Wolverhampton Council has emphasized the importance of completing the application process, which closes at 11:59 pm on January 15, 2026.
As of early December, only 43% of parents had submitted their online applications for infant and primary school places. Councillor Jacqui Coogan, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, stressed the significance of this step: “Applying for your child’s reception class place is one of the most important decisions you will make. The process is simple and should only take a few minutes.”
Parents are reminded that even if their child is currently attending nursery at a school, they must still apply separately for reception. Missing the January 15 deadline can reduce the chances of securing a spot at preferred schools.

The council highlights several benefits to applying online via www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/admissions. The secure website allows parents to complete, view, and amend their applications up until the deadline. Additionally, applicants can find out their child’s school place allocation online in April 2026, offering faster access than waiting for postal notifications.
For parents needing extra support, the Admissions and Appeals Team is available by phone at 01902 551122. Furthermore, walk-in School Application Surgeries will be held at the Civic Centre in St Peter’s Square on January 8 and January 15, from 10 am to 2 pm—no appointment required.
To ensure your child’s smooth transition to reception class, make sure to submit your application before the January deadline.
