Since its launch on June 1, 2021, Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone (CAZ) has been operational 24/7 to improve air quality in the city centre. Drivers need to be fully aware of the CAZ boundaries, rules, charges, and potential fines to avoid costly penalties.
The CAZ covers the entire area inside the A4540 Middleway ring road, including major routes such as A38 Bristol Road, Dartmouth Circus, the Jewellery Quarter, and Digbeth. Importantly, driving on the Middleway itself does not incur a charge, as it marks the perimeter of the zone.
