Maki and Ramen is gearing up to welcome diners to its newly transformed location on Birmingham’s iconic New Street. After several months of refurbishments throughout 2026, the popular noodle and sushi chain has confirmed its official opening date: August 21st.
Situated on the ground floor of King Edward House, the restaurant marks the chain’s 21st branch and its sixth new opening this year. The spacious venue can accommodate up to 120 guests and boasts an extensive halal menu that includes a broad selection of vegan options. Diners can look forward to traditional Japanese favorites such as gyoza and katsu curry, crafted with authentic flavors.
Founder Teddy Lee expressed enthusiasm about the new location, saying, “Birmingham is an incredible city with a vibrant culture, and we’re confident our restaurant will resonate with locals and visitors alike.”

Maki and Ramen first launched in Edinburgh 11 years ago and has since earned a reputation for serving quick-serve ramen made with handcrafted noodles and broth that is simmered for eight hours to achieve genuine depth of flavor.
The interior design features an open plan layout illuminated by warm lighting and neon accents, paying homage to classic ramen-yas. The basement bar will offer a selection of Japanese beers, unique cocktails, and tea-based beverages. Additionally, guests can enjoy outdoor seating for a relaxed dining experience.
“Our goal is to provide a welcoming space where people can enjoy high-quality meals at affordable prices, whether it’s lunch, afternoon, or dinner,” Teddy added.
Maki and Ramen will officially open at King Edward House, 134B New Street, Birmingham, B2 4NS on Friday, August 21. It joins a growing number of sushi and Japanese eateries launching in Birmingham’s city center this year, including new venues near Pigeon Park, the Paradise Development, the Bullring, and Grand Central.
