Now is the Time for Aston Villa as European Home Form Sets Them Apart

Aston Villa’s impressive run at Villa Park continues as they secured their seventh consecutive home victory with a win over BSC Young Boys. This remarkable streak has established their record of seven straight home wins in European competition, a feat unmatched by any other club in recent seasons.

Under Unai Emery’s leadership, Villa have displayed formidable strength on home soil, winning all six of their European home matches in 2025 alone. Since the beginning of the 2023-24 season, Aston Villa have recorded 13 home wins out of 15 major European fixtures. This is more than any other top club, surpassing Premier League leaders Arsenal, Spanish giants Real Madrid, and Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain.

This season, Villa have bagged three Europa League home wins against Bologna, Maccabi Tel Aviv, and Young Boys, complementing three earlier home victories in the Champions League. Their recent performances include a 4-2 win over Celtic in the Champions League group stages and an emphatic 3-0 victory over Club Brugge in the Round of 16’s second leg.

One of the standout moments came in their quarter-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain. After losing the first leg 3-1 away, Villa staged an exciting comeback at Villa Park, coming from two goals down to secure a thrilling 3-2 win. The French champions faced intense pressure in the final 20 minutes with Villa pushing hard to level the aggregate score.

Since their only home defeat this season to Arsenal last year, Aston Villa have played 37 home matches against 27 different opponents, losing just once, to Crystal Palace. Villa Park has truly earned its reputation as a fortress.

Securing a top-two finish in the Europa League group stage is crucial for Villa, as it guarantees home advantage for all knockout second legs. This could be the key difference as they aim to win silverware under Emery’s management.

Last year, the teams finishing top two in the league phase earned 19 points each— Athletic Bilbao and Lazio. Villa currently have 12 points, with three critical fixtures remaining: an away match at FC Basel, away to Fenerbahçe, and a home clash against RB Salzburg on January 29. With seven points needed to match last season’s top-two benchmark, Villa’s resilience and home prowess could propel them deep into European competition and possibly toward a trophy.
