Brian Lines, an 86-year-old convicted child sex offender from Leek, West Midlands, has died in prison after a long history of horrifying sexual crimes against children spanning nearly four decades. Sentenced to 30 years in May 2024, Lines was found guilty of numerous offenses involving girls between 1970 and 2009 in Staffordshire.
At Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, Lines was convicted on multiple counts including 16 counts of indecent assault on a girl under 16, three counts of rape of a female under 16, three counts of rape of a female over 16, and the attempted rape of a girl under 16. Additionally, he was found guilty of four counts of sexual assault and other related offenses involving minors aged 13 to 15.
Lines passed away at HMP Stafford in September 2025. An official report from the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman revealed that the cause of death was natural, specifically decompensated heart failure secondary to an infection. An independent clinical review commissioned by NHS England confirmed the healthcare he received met or exceeded community standards. The coroner’s inquest in March 2026 officially declared his death as due to natural causes.
