Next UK Snow Bomb Set to Bring Record-Breaking 28 Inches of Snow

The UK is bracing for an unprecedented snowstorm, with new forecasts predicting up to 28 inches (70cm) of snow across parts of the country by the end of January. This storm is set to surpass earlier estimates that suggested only 12 inches (32cm) would fall.

Latest weather maps from WX Charts indicate that intense snowfall will impact a wide swath, starting from the Scottish Highlands and stretching down to the southern coast. On January 31, the Scottish Highlands could see the heaviest accumulation, with up to 71cm of snow expected by the evening.

Central Scotland is also forecasted to experience heavy snow flurries, while northern England’s Pennines and the border area between Cumbria and Northumberland could receive as much as 24cm of snowfall.

Temperatures are set to plummet, potentially dropping to a chilling -14°C in central Scotland on January 30. Meanwhile, many other regions are likely to hover just above freezing.

In the shorter term, the BBC Weather forecast outlines a dull start to the week with persistent low clouds and rain. Fog is expected to linger, particularly in central areas, while Northern Ireland may see heavy rainfall. Temperatures will remain close to or slightly above average initially, with frost developing in northern and western areas amid some clear spells. Strong winds are anticipated in the southwest.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, January 20, cloud cover will break across central and northern areas but will persist along western and eastern coasts. Rain is expected in the west, becoming heavy in the southwest alongside strengthening winds, with temperatures averaging around normal for this time of year.

The Met Office outlook from Wednesday to Friday predicts a changeable period with mostly cloudy skies, occasional bright spells, and intermittent rain showers. Winds will increase in the north later in the week, with temperatures potentially dropping further, signaling a colder spell ahead.

Residents across the UK should prepare for disruptive weather conditions as this powerful snowstorm approaches, bringing significant snowfall and bitter temperatures.
