The UK is gearing up for another heatwave, with August poised to become the hottest month of the summer, according to early forecasts by Netweather TV. Meteorologists have begun to analyze the developing weather patterns, hinting at what could be a warm and dry summer ahead.
The forecast follows an unprecedented end to May, where temperatures soared above 30°C across all four Home Nations, breaking several records. This early summer heat wave has raised expectations for continued warmth as the season advances.
Nick Finnis of Netweather TV explained, “After a remarkably warm and dry spring with record-breaking temperatures in May, summer 2026 is likely to maintain its warm trend across the UK. While temperatures are expected to be above average, rainfall might be more variable.”

June is forecast to start on a cooler and unsettled note, with Atlantic frontal systems bringing showers and occasional strong winds, especially to the northwest. However, by mid-June, high-pressure systems are anticipated to build, paving the way for drier and warmer conditions.
“High pressure is expected to return from around June 15, possibly triggering another heatwave. July looks set to be warm and occasionally hot, though changeable. August, however, has signals of being the warmest and driest month of the summer,” Finnis added.
Supporting this outlook is the ongoing development of a strong El Niño, which may influence the UK’s weather patterns throughout the season, contributing to sustained warmth and decreased rainfall in some regions.
The Met Office forecast from June 5 to June 15 also highlights the transition from unsettled, rainy spells in the early period to more stable and drier weather later on, particularly in the south. Despite these changes, temperatures are expected to hover near normal overall during this period.
As the UK prepares for these conditions, residents can anticipate a summer marked by significant warmth, punctuated by occasional rainfall, but with a strong potential for extended heatwaves and dry spells, especially in August.
