A new entertainment venue is set to open in Shirley, but its owners are facing challenges in securing a licence to sell alcohol. Applicant Nilesh Pandit has submitted plans to transform unit 18 at Parkgate Shopping Centre, previously occupied by Poundland, into a modern leisure bar named ‘Hideout.’
In the application to Solihull Council, Pandit describes the venue as a vibrant space offering a range of interactive activities designed for individuals, couples, and groups of friends. The venue aims to fill a gap in Shirley’s leisure scene, with no similar offerings nearby—the closest comparable establishment being in Touchwood, Solihull.
Hideout will feature a small bar area, approximately 2-3 metres in size, serving a limited selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The management has assured that security staff will be present during all licensable hours to maintain safety and compliance. They emphasize a commitment to key licensing objectives, such as preventing crime and disorder and protecting children from harm.

The applicant seeks permission to sell alcohol and play recorded music daily from 11 am to 11 pm, Monday through Sunday. The licensing panel is scheduled to meet next month to decide on the licence application.
However, objections have come from neighbouring tenant Bei Capelli, a hair and beauty salon located in unit 19. The salon expressed concerns about increased noise and safety issues, pointing to recent incidents involving young people causing disturbances. They fear that the new venue may deter customers, potentially forcing them to relocate.
Ahead of the hearing, the applicant has engaged with West Midlands Police, resulting in additional conditions being proposed to ensure public safety. The licensing panel will weigh these factors before making their decision at the Civic Suite on July 8.
