Starting Monday, July 6, motorhomes and campervans visiting Marine Parade in Saltburn, Redcar and Cleveland, will face new parking restrictions designed to balance the needs of visitors and local residents. Motorhomes will only be allowed to park in designated bays on the north side of Marine Parade, with a maximum stay of four hours. Parking on unmarked sections of the road will be prohibited for motorhomes at all times.
Importantly, no new parking fees will be levied. Residents between Garnet Street and Saltburn Road on Marine Parade will have the option to apply for parking permits to protect their local access. Disabled badge holders retain free parking privileges in council car parks and can use marked bays on Marine Parade for up to four hours during restricted times, with no limits on Sundays or after 5 pm.
Cllr Carl Quartermain, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, emphasized that these measures result from careful consideration of feedback from both residents and motorhome users. “The new restrictions create dedicated spaces with time limits, ensuring parking availability for residents and visitors alike,” he explained.

These changes are being implemented under an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO), allowing the council to monitor their impact and gather public feedback before deciding on permanent regulations.
The motorhome definition used follows Regulation 2(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Type Approval) (Great Britain) Regulations 1979, describing a motor caravan as a vehicle equipped for mobile living accommodation with the necessary permanent onboard facilities.
Overall, the council aims to maintain fair access while managing demand on Marine Parade’s limited parking resources.
