A fresh addition to Birmingham’s vibrant nightlife, Stories Tavern is making waves with some of the city’s most affordable pints, including a classic Guinness for just £5.
Housed at 103 Colmore Row beneath the renowned rooftop restaurant 24 Stories, this new bar has been transformed from a former café and cocktail spot into a 17th-century style tavern inspired by Britain’s rich history.
Stories Tavern aims to transport visitors back in time, offering a warm atmosphere filled with hearty British dishes, quality ales, and lively conversation reminiscent of historic Birmingham pubs.

Richard Chiswell, a proud Brummie and the bar’s general manager, describes the venue as “a journey back in time.” He shares, “We wanted to create something unique. Instead of mimicking 24 Stories upstairs, we focused on crafting a distinct experience. Our 17th-century tavern theme connects people to Birmingham’s past, complete with artwork featuring vintage city scenes, like an old photograph of the Bullring before the modern hustle and bustle.”
The bar’s affordable drink selection includes three £5 draught pints: Guinness, Chop Chop lager, and Bengal Session IPA. For food, patrons can indulge in traditional British options such as a £24 ploughman’s board and £6 scotch eggs, among other classics.
Although there’s no cask ale available yet—something CAMRA enthusiasts may note—Stories Tavern offers a variety of bottled ales. The venue operates as a cashless establishment, open daily, and plans are already underway to expand with a New York location next year.
Since its rebranding, Stories Tavern has received positive feedback and steadily increasing patronage. While many in the hospitality industry face challenges, the bar’s parent company is committed to growth and bringing memorable experiences to both locals and visitors alike.
