Greene King, one of the UK’s largest pub chains with around 2,600 venues nationwide, has introduced a new £5 deposit requirement for England fans looking to watch the Three Lions’ World Cup matches at their pubs during the 2026 tournament. Unlike their usual policy—where deposits are only required on Christmas Day—fans now must pay this fee per person to secure a table specifically for home nation games.
The deposit policy is clear: “Guests will be required to pay £5 per person for England games in English pubs and £5 per person for Scotland games in Scottish pubs during the World Cup to guarantee their bookings.” According to a spokesperson from Greene King, this deposit is not an extra cost but is fully redeemable against food and drinks. The chain aims to ensure the best possible in-pub atmosphere and seating experience for supporters who want to come together and enjoy the live football excitement.
This announcement comes as England celebrated a thrilling 4-2 win over Croatia, a match marked by strong leadership and inspiring motivation. England captain Harry Kane revealed that a halftime pep talk from coach Thomas Tuchel was pivotal in turning the game around. “He told us to take the shackles off, calm down, and go for it. He asked, ‘What’s the worst that can happen? Show the world who we can be,’” Kane said. Following the speech, England surged in the second half, dominating play and scoring on the counterattack, showcasing the level they aim to maintain throughout the tournament.

Midfielder Jude Bellingham also praised the team’s maturity and leadership. “It wasn’t a dramatic moment but exactly what the team needed. We have great leaders, and everyone knew the level required. The start of the second half gave us a great platform to build on,” he said.
With the new deposit policy in place and a strong start on the pitch, England fans have plenty to look forward to both inside and outside the stadium during this summer’s World Cup.
