New 20mph Speed Limit Enforced 24/7 for Eight Months on Clodgey Lane

Cornwall Council has introduced a new 20mph speed limit on Clodgey Lane and the access road to the former Flambards theme park, effective from November 10, 2025. The restriction will remain in place for approximately eight months, with an expected removal date of July 7, 2026.

This temporary speed limit will be enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week, requiring drivers to maintain heightened caution throughout the entire period. The council explained the decision stems from ongoing construction and surfacing works in the area, prioritizing the safety of both workers and the public.

In the official order, Cornwall Council detailed the affected section: the speed limit applies to approximately 475 metres of Clodgey Lane and 92 metres of the access road to Flambards. The council further noted that the order might be extended by the Secretary of State for Transport if necessary.

Local drivers have expressed frustration over the new restriction. One criticized increased road stress, citing tailgating and dangerous overtaking behaviors. Another attributed the change to what they perceived as heavy-handed council policies lacking common sense. A third driver questioned why contractors aren’t adopting round-the-clock shifts to minimize road disruptions, highlighting ongoing delays and lack of visible improvements.

Despite the unrest, the council remains firm in its commitment to maintaining safety during the extensive construction period.
