New £100 Cost of Living Payments for UK Households Must Be Spent in Supermarkets

Starting Monday, UK households have the opportunity to receive £100 in cost of living payments, specifically to be spent in supermarkets. This initiative is part of the Labour Party government’s expansion of the Household Support Fund, administered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

In Nottingham, 10,000 supermarket vouchers, each valued at £100, will soon be available. Applications open on Monday, giving families the chance to have their requests approved and receive the funds to ease their grocery expenses.

Residents can apply immediately, with approval notifications sent by email no later than Friday, December 12. The timing of approval may vary, meaning some applicants could find out the same day they apply, while others may wait up to 12 days.

Successful applicants will be issued their £100 supermarket voucher by January 31, 2026. For those who are not successful, there will be a second application period beginning February 2, 2026, when another round of supermarket vouchers will be offered.

The local authority has clarified a few important points ahead of the Christmas season: this round consists solely of supermarket vouchers—no energy vouchers are included. Residents who have already received supermarket vouchers earlier in the year are still eligible to apply again.

They emphasized, “You may receive your £100 supermarket voucher any time before January 31, 2026, if you are successful. We cannot respond to queries about vouchers until after this date. Any updates will be provided through the official website.”

Furthermore, the council confirmed that unsuccessful applicants can reapply for both Energy and Supermarket Vouchers during a short window from February 2 to midnight on February 8, 2026.

It is also crucial to note that all supermarket voucher codes must be redeemed within four weeks of issue. Expired vouchers will not be reissued, so prompt use is essential.

This generous program aims to provide tangible support to struggling households as the cost of living continues to rise, ensuring families can cover essential food costs during the challenging winter months.
