Nationwide has announced a significant commitment to maintaining its physical bank branches, reassuring customers just in time for the holiday season. While many banks are closing branches, Nationwide is bucking the trend by keeping its doors open longer. In a recent message to customers, the bank emphasized that all 605 of its branches will remain operational until at least the start of 2030, barring unforeseen circumstances.
The communication highlights Nationwide’s dedication to providing a warm, in-person banking experience despite the shift to digital services. “The days may be getting colder, but you’ll always find a warm welcome at our branches – which are now staying put on the high street for even longer,” the bank shared.
This pledge follows Nationwide being recognized as the Which? Banking Brand of the Year 2025. The bank underscores that this award reflects its unique commitment to branch availability compared to its competitors.

Dame Debbie Crosbie DBE, Group Chief Executive, reinforced the importance of branches, stating, “Branches are important to our customers, to communities, and to the health of our High Streets. That’s why Nationwide will continue to keep branches open in addition to our investment in online and telephone channels.”
Nationwide operates the largest single-brand banking network in the UK, with 605 branches nationwide. When combined with Virgin Money’s 91 branches, their network totals 696 branches. Recent data reveals a rise in branch usage and new account openings, especially in towns where Nationwide has become the ‘last branch in town’ following competitors’ closures. Since January, 33 additional branches have earned this distinction, bringing the total to 133 towns and villages where Nationwide stands as the sole remaining bank branch.
