Nationwide Boosts Customers with Free £175 Payments Amid Switching Surge

Nationwide has recently rewarded more than 40,000 new customers with free payments of £175 as part of its competitive switching offers. This cash boost, aimed at enticing individuals from rival banks, is just one of several financial benefits the building society offers.

Between July and September, Nationwide welcomed 41,450 new members attracted by enticing cash deals and their longstanding £100 Fairer Share payment—an annual reward given to eligible members every summer.

Financial experts emphasize that switching bank accounts can be a smart, simple way to earn extra money. With various banks offering switch incentives throughout the year, consumers are encouraged to compare deals to find the most advantageous option. The Current Account Switch Service helps ease this transition, handling much of the paperwork involved.

Personal finance specialist Andrew Hagger of Moneycomms praises Nationwide’s success in customer acquisition, noting that the building society has excelled over the past two years by gaining over 400,000 customers from competitors.

Alastair Douglas, CEO of TotallyMoney, highlights that the market for switching incentives has “heated up” as some of the major banks—including Co-op, First Direct, HSBC Premier, Lloyds, Nationwide, Santander, and TSB—currently offer switching bonuses of at least £175.

Douglas also points out that switching your bank can bring more than financial rewards: “You might also find a new bank can provide you with better service, an interest-free overdraft, or accessible high street branches.”

In today’s banking landscape, loyalty rarely pays off, but moving your money often can.
