For West Midlands detectives, the case of Luke Anderson stands as an unwelcome milestone in their pursuit of justice.
Back in March 2001, the then 19-year-old was identified as the prime suspect in a brutal attempted murder outside the Falcon Hotel on Manor Road, Coventry. The attack left a doctor seriously injured, and authorities were confident that Anderson would soon be in custody to face questioning.
However, despite a massive manhunt and a nationwide appeal featured on BBC Crimewatch, Anderson vanished without a trace. Now, 25 years later, his whereabouts remain a complete mystery. He has become one of the longest-serving members on West Midlands Police’s most wanted list.

Over the years, multiple public appeals have been made, but none have led to his capture or to justice for the victim. It is unclear how Anderson managed to evade detection for so long. Speculation suggests he may have altered his appearance or assumed a new identity. Authorities have also considered the possibility that he is living abroad.
West Midlands Police stated in 2024: “Luke Anderson is wanted in connection with an attempted murder in 2001. His image was widely shared across regional and national media at the time. We consistently and proactively release information about wanted individuals through our website and social media channels. The public plays a crucial role, and sharing information about wanted persons has proven to be an effective method for locating suspects.”
Now 44 years old, Anderson still has much of his life ahead of him, but his shadowy absence continues to frustrate detectives and deny the victim closure.
