Mystery Deepens as Birmingham New Street’s T4 Tea Shop Remains Bolted

Birmingham’s bustling New Street is undergoing significant changes, yet one local favorite, T4 tea shop, has caught the public’s attention for a different reason. Known for its specialty boba drinks and a solid 4.3-star rating on Google, the T4 outlet on New Street is now firmly closed, its door bolted shut with a handwritten sign that reads, “CLOSED. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

This unexpected closure adds to the list of vacancies on the street, including the former Gong Cha tea shop, which shut its doors last July. Customers have voiced their confusion online; one asked on Instagram if T4 was still delivering via Deliveroo, while another noted the shop hadn’t been open for weeks.

Efforts to reach T4 for clarification were unsuccessful. The phone line is disconnected, and their website is no longer active, leaving patrons and passersby puzzled.

These closures come at a time when New Street is undergoing substantial redevelopment aimed at enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety. Contractors are replacing surfaces with fresh granite, removing kerbs, and installing subtle barriers to keep vehicles off the pedestrian pathway. However, the street also sports several empty establishments, some dormant for years, like the former Morrisons which marks a decade of closure, and the recently shuttered Fat Burgers.

As New Street evolves, the fate of shops like T4 remains uncertain, adding a layer of mystery amidst the transformation of one of Birmingham’s busiest thoroughfares.
