A devoted mother of two, Jana Bahvalova, 29, was tragically found dead in the Bridgewater Canal in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, after she failed to collect her daughters from their babysitter.
Jana’s body was discovered on Wednesday, December 10, following a missing person report. She had been living in the Birchwood area of Warrington, having recently moved from Peterborough after a separation from her husband.
Her sister, Diāna, described Jana as a loving and dedicated mum who raised her two daughters, Adelina and Kate, on her own. “Jana was always doing everything she could to provide a safe, loving, and stable home,” Diāna said. She added that Jana had a passion for cycling, which brought her peace and happiness amid life’s difficulties.

The family first became worried on December 8 when Jana did not arrive to pick up her children from their babysitter. Jana worked as a hotel housekeeper and was known among friends and colleagues as hardworking, reliable, and humble.
Jana’s passing has deeply affected her family, friends, and the broader community who knew her gentle and kind nature. Her family is now fundraising to support her daughters and cover funeral expenses, aiming to secure the care and support the young girls need going forward.
Greater Manchester Police reported that emergency services were called to Atlantic Street at around 8:30 a.m. on December 10, where Jana’s body was recovered from the water.
